We stayed at the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa which was also where the Seminar was held the next day. We'd thought this would be much more relaxing then driving down first thing in the morning at 6am. (It's almost a two hour drive with no traffic). PLUS it will give us a chance to have dinner and catch up.

About two months out, we had a general idea who was going when we purchased our tickets. Five of us carpooled. We met up in Irvine around 7pm then drove down the night before. Note: We all felt that the best time was after we fed the family, and it would be easier on the Dads. (Yes, we thought about them too).
We made it down there in no time with no traffic. Unfortunately, it was already dark so we couldn't tell what we were looking out from our rooms. Even though we snacked along the way, we really wanted to have dinner together (instead of in the car) so we chose to have dinner out by the fire pits at the resort. Check it out. I think we made a good decision.

What I liked about sitting outside:
- It was in a calm environment,
- a beautiful night,
- we relaxed with pillows, and
- we didn't have to talk over each other.
The next morning,
we woke up to this GORGEOUS view of Mission Bay!Joggers, dog walkers, and bikers were spotted along the beach. Do they get to wake up to this every morning? LUCKY!
Short but Sweet
We left shortly after the seminar to rush back to our families and birthday parties that night and the following day. It was short but sweet. We all wished we were able to stay an extra night and soak up the beautiful location.

I want to come back with my family or just my husband next time. There were lots more to the property that we didn't get to see. I think they would really enjoy it.

More about Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa:
The San Diego hotel and its surrounding area was originally the summer estate of the Scripps family which they called Braemar. Mrs. Scripps, matriarch of the family, envisioned a simple yet elegant home, a place where the family could enjoy wonderful ocean breezes and comfortable starry nights. The family eventually abandoned their summer estate in late 1955, and it was sold. In 1958, Mr. William D. Evans acquired the property and began construction of what would become the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa. After much deliberation, it was decided that the main constant motif of the ever-changing inn would be drawn from tropical themes and influences.

The workers at the Catamaran Resort Hotel were really nice. I highly recommend the place if you are staying in San Diego.
