Talented Directors Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch) & Kirk DeMicco (Space Chimps) briefed us on the creation of The Croods and showed us some highlights of the film in 3D! We discussed how dysfunctional families are universally (something everyone can relate to) which is one thing that makes the Crood family so lovable.

ILLUSTRATION MASTER CLASS

I was concentrating really hard on my drawings! One of the creatures from the movie that we learned how to draw – Belt! Dun Dun Dahhh!!! What do you think?

DREAMWORKS CAMPUS TOUR
After class, we all took a walking tour around DreamWorks’ campus. If you EVER get the chance to visit this beautiful, happy, tranquil place, DO IT! Don’t let it pass you by. I seriously want to live here or at the very least, work here. In LOVE!

ANIMATION 101
After the campus tour, we were off to our next class – Animation 101. In this class, we learned about the great motion capture tools. They use 53 markers on the actor’s bodies to capture their natural movements. You can see the screen behind them capturing every move. In this scene, we watched Eep seeing fire for the first time as she meets Guy. WOW!

We had a quick and scrumptious lunch, then it was off to hang out with Belt in the Stand Up Room. More hugging time!

ROUNDTABLE WITH CHRIS SANDERS AND KIRK DEMICCO
It was fascinating watching Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco at roundtable. We learned the most challenging part about creating The Croods was the artistic and technology aspects of the film. Organic elements are very labor intensive to make. It was also very important for them that the film jumped right into the action and adventure (awesome job by the way). For example, the opening scenes where they’re running for their lives is a whole family affair!

EEP SHOE CLINIC
Our last portion of the day was a very fun and interactive class called Eep’s Shoe Clinic with Line Andersen and Ugg Australia! Mr. Kate was there as well. We got to decorate our own pair of Ugg Boots! Eep was the inspiration for this lesson as there is a scene in the film where Guy gives her… her first pair of shoes! So romantic! Like any girl, she was super excited to get them. I have to say, I think we were all just as excited to get a pair too!

Here is a glimpse of all the beads, paints, and supplies we used to decorate our Ugg Boots!

And… here’s how mine turned out… Aren’t they super cute?? I love them!
