We're finally back in school! With new teachers, a new campus, and new schedules, I’m hoping for a smooth transition all around. This year, I’m inspired to send my kids to school with more nutritious and healthier lunch options. I’m going to try my best to pack their lunches every day if possible (unless there’s something on the school menu they really want to eat). I have found that the more input my kids have in their meals, they will tend to eat more of it especially when they picked it out themselves. Most recently I was invited to sample the new Foster Farms All Natural Turkey Lunchmeat, and decided to try it in some turkey wraps or pinwheels. Please see recipe below!
EASY TURKEY LUNCHMEAT PINWHEEL RECIPE
This took about 10-15 minutes to prepare.
INGREDIENTS:
OPTIONAL:
DIRECTIONS:
1 PKG Whole Grain Tortillas
1 PKG Hummus or Low Fat Cream Cheese
1 PKG Foster Farms All Natural Sliced Turkey lunchmeat
1 PKG Sliced cheese of choice
OPTIONAL:
Leafy Green Lettuce
DIRECTIONS:
- Lay the tortilla on a flat surface.
- Spread a thin layer of hummus or cream cheese on the tortilla.
- Layer with 2 slices of cheese. Lay them side-by-side.
- Layer with 2 slices of Foster Farms All Natural Sliced Turkey lunchmeat. Lay them side-by-side.
- Roll it tightly.
- Cut off the ends before slicing them about an inch apart.
- Serve.
Here was my first go at it. These are bite size for me, but if you want it thicker, I suggest using larger tortillas and double the recipe. Lettuce is optional as another layer. I used hummus with sundried tomatoes, and put the pinwheels on a bed of lettuce. My kids may or may not eat the lettuce, but I’ve been told that I will have better chances if I offer it to them with every meal. (It will get them used to seeing them.) I made another version with pita bread below.
For side items, I added colorful vegetables like carrots and grape tomatoes, and I also added whole grain crackers and hummus for dipping. You could also pair the pinwheels with more fruit, like strawberries, blueberries, and sliced fruit.
I’m feeling confident about starting off the new school year with healthier meal options for my children.
