Ticket Giveaway: Dana Wharf Whale Watching | @DanaWharf #WhaleWatching

It's the start of Gray Whale migration season, and we were invited to go on a two hour whale watching excursion out of Dana Point at Dana Wharf!

We've been before on an early Saturday morning, and I remember we had a hard time rushing down there then couldn't find parking. This time around we wanted to try the 2 pm trip and had no problems. (Question: If you've been before on the weekends, did you have trouble finding parking?)

TIP: If you find yourself pressed for time with no luck finding a close parking spot, Dana Wharf has their own parking lot so have someone run into the store to pick up a parking pass.  (It's not a super close lot either so make sure you arrive enough time for this).

With no traffic and no problems finding parking, we arrived an hour early. It was a beautiful afternoon so we didn't mind relaxing on one of the benches in the harbor.

Closer to our boarding time, we spotted the Dana Pride returning from an earlier trip and started to get excited. (Orcas have been spotted a few days ago so we were hoping the same).

Once on the Dana Pride, we had a few options where we can sit or stand. Many opt for the top deck and the front, but, as you can see, we can pretty much stand or sit anywhere.

Having been before, we know how freezing cold it can get when the boat is at high speeds, so we opt for the cabin where it's warm. To our surprise, they had educational toys which the kids enjoyed playing with.

It was nice to get some fresh ocean air and we can see how blue the water is.

Everyone once in a while, we see marine life but no whale.

So we took lots of pictures of the family. Then when we weren't paying attention...

There she blows! Can you see it?

Here we're watching the sunset on the Dana Pride.

Hello, California Sea Lions.

Unfortunately, that whale didn't resurface (it wasn't a gray whale), but we were still hopeful all the way til the end. Some dolphins were following us, and they were fun to watch. Even though, we didn't get to see a Gray Whale or Orca up-and-close, we enjoyed being out on the waters as a family. We also received "Whale Checks" (get it?) to come back whenever we wanted.

Thanks, Dana Wharf, for the memories! We will be back again soon!
