As you know, we were at the Port of Los Angeles Lobster Festival this weekend and while we were there, we stopped to learn about Mohawk's SmartStrand carpets and to get our "License to Spill." 

Do you have small kids? Tell me - how often do you clean your carpets every year? For us, not as often as we should! It's frustrating, because right after we get them cleaned, there goes another spill, and, well, some of the red juice becomes permanent. Getting them cleaned is hard work too. I've tried renting the machine from the grocery store, and after trying to do it myself (I'm not that strong), I vowed to just ALWAYS rent a professional. I had a hard time carrying it up and down the stairs, it took forever to dry, and it still didn't look clean. Now imagine doing that four to six times a year (more if you have pets and your own machine).

My friends and I watched a short demonstration from Mohawk (see short video below) and you're not going to believe this, but we watched Mollie spray Powerade, soy sauce, and red wine in their carpet, then rinsed it off with just water! NO WAY!! Yes way!! (Even the red wine came off!)

With it being on a Sunday evening and an early rise the following day, we asked our friend Carolyn to cover this event for us. It was perfect, because her daughter was also celebrating a birthday. Here's what she reported...

It's hard to believe I've lived in Los Angeles for 25 years and I have never been to the Greek Theatre. What an amazing venue... maybe my new favorite. Tucked way back in Griffith Park, not too far from the Observatory, the Greek is an open-air amphitheater with 5900 seats. Having been to many, many concerts, at all types of venues, in my lifetime, I have to say watching a concert under the stars is definitely the way to go. Because the theatre is smaller than a concert hall, there really isn't a bad seat in the house. There is a different feel as well... much more intimate and personal.

2013 Port of Los Angeles Lobster Festival and Tips for Next Year | @PoLALobsterFest #LALobsterFest

Over the weekend, my friend Jenn and I were at The Port of Los Angeles LobsterFest held in Ports O' Call Village in San Pedro. A large inflatable lobster arch welcomed us.

Magellanic Penguin Chicks Moved into June Keyes Habitat Sept 10 @AquariumPacific #LBpenguins

Last June, two new Magellanic Penguins hatched at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Biologists moved the chicks into the June Keyes Penguin Habitat Tuesday morning (Sept 10th) and then it was open to the public at 9:00 am. They will be available for daily meet-and-greets at the Molina Animal Care Center.
