Here are some fun facts about the float provided by Public Storage:

• This was their first entry for Public Storage, a Glendale based company.

• The float was built by Paradiso Parade Floats, the newest builder for Rose Parade floats.

• The designer of the float, Charles Meier, first drew this float when he was in high school.
The theme of the parade was "Dreams Come True," and having this float built was indeed a dream come true for him.

• Another first was the float activation. Never before in the parade's history had a float disassembled and then reassembled itself.

Recap of the animation: The float appeared as one space ship with 3 aliens riding in it. The mother ship began to open, lifting to 45' high and a ramp appeared in front of the ship. The 3 aliens then each drove off the main float in their own personal spaceships, greeting the crowds and wishing Happy New Year to all. They each went around to the back of the main float and re-entered, the hatch descended and off they went!

• Lastly, this was also the first time company's employees helped decorate the float nationwide!

Public Storage wanted as many of their 5,000 employees as possible to be part of the experience, but, of course, having everyone come to Pasadena was not possible! So, 33 pieces of the float were shipped out across the nation to regional offices where employees decorated the pieces and returned them to Pasadena to be placed onto the float.
