This month my sister-in-law (SIL) Nhi and I are celebrating our birthdays, and being a new mom with newborn twins, I thought she could use a night out at the opening night performance of Mamma Mia!
Now showing at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Mamma Mia! is the ultimate Girl's Night Out! I think this picture says it all with our "Dancing Queens" pose. It was a night full of laughs. This photo opportunity is located on the third floor. Other pre-show activities include a timeline banner with fun facts about ABBA and Mamma Mia! (located on the second floor) as well as a disco dance floor with lights and ABBA music (on the third floor).
My SIL and I enjoyed cocktails and snacks before the show. CHEERS!
There were so many wonderful components, I don't even know where to begin. Let's start with the stars of the show - Donna (Georgia Kate Haege) and Sophie (Chelsea Williams). When they sang, you can feel their emotions. Donna rocked the ABBA songs hands down. There was a mother-daughter moment right before the wedding when Donna saw her daughter in her wedding gown, and it finally hit her - Sophie is leaving her. LOVE that part! It was such a touchy moment as Donna raised her as a single mother. The women also had great chemistry with their love interest.
Donna's girlfriends were fun to watch. Tanya (Gabrielle Mirabella) has been married three times (aka the cougar) is hilarious! I loved it when the other friend, Rosie (Carly Sakolove - the shy one), sang "Take a Chance on Me. I'm still free," and the Dad tried to run away from her.
All the Dads - Sam (Jeff Drushal), Harry (Mark A. Harmon), and Bill (Michael Colavolpe) all had their unique styles and played their parts perfectly.
The fiance, Sky (Chris Stevens), and his friends are HOT. Love the part where they take him away for his Bachelor party.
Both the singing and dancing are powerful in this performance. Hint: you will want to get up and dance at the end to "Dancing Queen." (It's like watching a live music video with all the vibrant colors, lights, and dancing.)

We enjoyed watching this performance and all the singing of the ABBA songs. It was the perfect Moms Night Out! My SIL said it's now on her "favorites" list of musicals. Ladies, take your girlfriends, your mom, or daughter (if she's old enough), and have the time of your lives!
