Pretend City Celebrates Dr Seuss' New Book: What Pet Should I Get? #pretendcity

New Dr Seuss book: What Pet Should I Get? Friday, July 31st was a very special day at Pretend City. It was Dr. Seuss's Pet Party! We had the privilege of listening to a fun story of the latest Dr Seuss book called, What Pet Should I Get? It's about a brother and a sister who goes to a pet store to shop for a pet. How can they pick just one? Some decisions are hard to make, but you have to make them anyway.

That day, the museum celebrated all things Dr Seuss. In the Art Studio children made hand prints of Thing 1 and Thing 2. The library had many Dr. Seuss books on display. Our favorite place was the Photo Booth where you could dress up as a character from many Dr Seuss books using hats, beards, mustaches and other accessories. My daughter had a blast playing games with Thing 1 and Thing 2. They popped up from time to time to play different games like sack racing.

Of course, all of the regular activities were also available. My children had a great time pretending to have many jobs. They were a farmer, a grocery clerk, a mailman, a builder, a construction worker, a plumber, a chef, a doctor, a dentist, a fisherman, a sailboat maker, a police officer, a fireman, a lifeguard, a singer, an actor, a stage engineer. Such a fun place to nurture the children's imagination!

A pleasant surprise was the new exhibit called Heart and Seoul: Growing Up in Korea. It will be at Pretend City from June 2, 2015 until September 7, 2015. We did not have much knowledge about the Korean Culture and thought this exhibit was a great immersive educational experience. My children loved to sing and dance along K-Pop stars, practice Taekwondo moves, sit in a Korean classroom, explore a Korean apartment, pretend to eat at a Korean restaurant... I would highly recommend going to see this exhibit before it moves to another city.

We had never stayed at Pretend City until closing time before and were delighted to be a part of the parade. At 4:55 pm, all the children are invited to pick a musical instrument and parade around the museum. They were all dancing and playing their instruments along to Shake It Off from Taylor Swift. They all had a huge smile on their face. What a fun way to end a great day! Thank you, Pretend City, for allowing our children to let their imagination run wild for a few hours.

Pretend City Children's Museum is located at 29 Humble in Irvine, California. For more information, please visit their website at pretendcity.org.
