TRAVEL: Inside the Semi-Submarine "The Nautilus" with Catalina Adventure Tours @CatalinaTours

Looking for an underwater adventure on Catalina Island? Check out Nautilus Semi-Submarine! Once we got to Catalina Island, we looked over and spotted a yellow submarine - The Nautilus. We couldn't wait to explore what was in the beautiful clear waters of Avalon.

TIP: If you have small children, you might want to talk it up beforehand as much as possible so they are mentally prepared, after all, it's a 45 minute tour. Some examples,

• Hey look over there - can you find the yellow submarine? 
• We're going to see fish down there. 
• Do you think we'll see Nemo?

(I think you get the point.)

We walked across this Green Pier. You can't miss it, because it's the only one there.

TIP: There are no restrooms on board and keep in mind it's a 45 minute tour. Public restrooms can be found at the beginning of the pier on the right hand side.

Inside The Nautilus... people are anxiously awaiting to see what's in the waters.

Once inside, my kids are completely fascinated. What fish will we see? Where are the orange fish we keep seeing? 

Push that red button.

The captain explains that we will be able to send torpedoes of fish food to see fish swim up to our windows.

You can purchase them for $1.50 per shot or 16 shots for $20 (savings of $4). We had two windows so were able to split the shots up 8 and 8.

This was an added bonus for the kids that I didn't expect - Fun!! 

Right before the tour ended, we all climbed up and stood on top of the submarine for a view of the Avalon Harbor. My kids both screamed, "Let's do it again!" Yes, we were the loud family on the tour. =)
The Semi-Submarine Tour was so much fun. My kids were super excited, loved seeing the fish and pushing that red button as well as screamed with joy almost the entire time. It was a great experience for us and the 45 minutes went by so fast.

You might want to know:

• Pack jackets. It gets chilly. Temperatures are between 68-70 degrees, controlled by thermostat air conditioner. They keep it way down to help prevent motion sickness & hyperventilation among passengers.
• There are two feeding stops.
• There are no restrooms on board and it's a 45 minute tour, so stop by the restrooms on the green pier before you get in line.
• Tour Schedules could change or cancel due to weather so you'll want to call ahead.
• Save about $4-$5 by pre-purchasing your tickets.
