Review: Cirque du Soleil’s KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities

Disclosure: We attended as media.

You may have noticed that Cirque du Soleil’s KURIOS is in town. My family and I saw the show under the big top at OC Fair & Event Center and loved it! The act opens with an upbeat performance of singing and synchronized drumming. KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities tells a story about an inventor while showcasing a creative way of retelling the inventive past. It’s whimsical, theatrical, funny, and highly entertaining. You’ll see things that will change your perspective of the norm, defy gravity, and so much more. It’s all the acts you would see in a circus with a modern twist! We all watched in anticipation, and it was very impressive.

I also thought the mirror image of the dinner party was pretty amazing as he kept stacking the chairs to reach the suspended chandelier, the other one did the same but upside down! The transitional comedic act includes an invisible animal circus and him turning into a cat after drinking a potion. The underwater trampoline performance was high energy, athletic, and fun. The two men (conjoined twins) were beautiful to watch after they separated on the ropes at times using only one arm. That’s how strong they were! There’s more to the show, but I’ll stop right there.

My family and I enjoyed the performance. I highly recommend it as a day out with the family, a date night, or a day out with friends. KURIOS is in Orange County until November 29th, but they are headed to Los Angeles after. For more information, please visit their website at www.cirquedusoleil.com/kurios.

Have fun!

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities™ premiered to the world in Montréal in April 2014 and is Cirque du Soleil’s 35th production. The name of the show refers to the humble and strange characters that inhabit the Seeker’s Cabinet of Curiosities. In an alternate yet familiar past, in a place where wonders abound for those who trust their imagination, a Seeker discovers that in order to glimpse the marvels that lie just below the surface, we must first learn to close our eyes. In his larger-than-life curio cabinet, the Seeker is convinced that there exists a hidden, invisible world – a place where the craziest ideas and the grandest dreams lie waiting. A collection of otherworldly characters suddenly steps into his makeshift mechanical world. When the outlandish, benevolent characters turn his world upside down with a touch of poetry and humor in an attempt to ignite the Seeker’s imagination, his curios jump to life one by one before his very eyes.
