It was such a treat to attend the opening performance of 42nd STREET at Segerstrom Center in Costa Mesa. If you like tap dancing, this show delivers in grand style. The production captured the whole atmosphere of the 1930’s perfectly from costumes to scenery.

The opening scene featuring Lamont Brown as Andy Lee and Ensemble blew us away with their tap dancing skills and choreography. The super talented Caitlin Ehlinger as Peggy Sawyer was adorable. The chorus numbers are particularly impressive with an entire company dancing in mind-boggling, eye catching unison. My favorite moment was the finale of Pretty Lady where the cast danced and sang “42nd Street” in glittery costumes. The show had such great energy.
At age 16, Blake Stadnik was diagnosed with a form of juvenile macular degeneration that left him legally blind. At age 24 year old, Stadnik is using all his theatrical talents as he takes on the role of Billy Lawlor in "42nd Street,". While actors can jot down notes from a director about where to stand and walk on stage, Stadnik has to remember the directions, practice the movements and keep it all in his head. He can't recognize faces, but he can see shapes. As a mom of kids with special needs, this really struck my heart and makes 42nd STREET that much more spectacular.
42nd STREET is performing at Segerstrom Center for the Arts through November 22, 2015. For more information, please visit their website at www.scfta.org. Don’t miss out on this classic!
