On Thursday night, we had the opportunity to go to Medieval Times in Buena Park. We had been there a couple of times with my family before, but this time we brought along a friend visiting from France. It was so fun to experience Medieval Times with someone who has never been there!
Parking is FREE! Not many places let your park for free these days so that is really a nice surprise.
Be sure to get there early! Doors open 75 minutes prior to the show, and the earlier you arrive, the better your seats will be. Although to be honest, there really isn't a bad seat in the arena.
From the very beginning the experience is like a full immersion inside Medieval Times. The hostesses are dressed in costumes as they check for your name on their list of reservations. When you get your tickets, you enter the door to the castle, and they "crown" you with a color and give you your table number. You then have the opportunity to take a keepsake picture with the King and/or the Princess of the Castle. Their costumes are beautiful, and they act their parts like seasoned actors.
Next, you can either order a cocktail or any drinks from their bar. A nice souvenir is their Medieval Times' cups. I suggest walking around inside the castle to look at the beautiful horses. They are magnificent. Their manes are beautifully groomed. (Another reason to get there early!) If you have children it will be hard to resist buying anything. They offer many options for swords, shields, flower crowns, and other accessories. An easy and affordable choice would be to buy the flag from the "color" you were given at the entrance. My 5 year old likes to hold the flag and wave it during the tournament to cheer on our knight.
Also prior to the show, the King proceeded to knight a few guests who were celebrating their birthdays or anniversary. We were also very lucky to watch a real live engagement right in front of us. Yes, a couple got engaged at Medieval Times!
Once it is time to enter the arena, each color group is asked to go in front of a specific door, and then we are guided to our seats. The tournament and the feast start soon after. For two hours, you are highly entertained with a wonderfully crafted show including jousting, horsemanship and falconry. The knights are very skilled and manage to fight with weapons and do amazing tricks while riding their horses.
Dinner was actually really good! First, a medieval wench brings you dragon soup (tomato bisque), and garlic bread. The next course is roasted chicken with herb-roasted potato, and buttered corn. For dessert, a warm apple pastry. Honestly, I enjoyed the food much better this time than the last time we came. They replaced the rib with the corn which was better for my children, because they love corn! Our friend thought the food was delicious, and she was thoroughly entertained the whole time.
What a fun experience! My favorite part is hands down the horses. They are masterfully trained and are just magnificent. My son loved the fighting. We all left with a big smile on our faces. Thank you, Medieval Times, for a wonderful evening filled with excitement and adventures.
