Knott's Scary Farm Instagram Photo Walk Tour @Knotts #ScaryFarm

A few weeks ago, we were invited to a special Knott's Scary Farm Instagram Photo Walk Tour and received a behind-the-scenes tour of the mazes, costuming, makeup, and historic tour. Oh Em Gee - even with the lights on it was scary!

When my husband dropped me off, my plan was to get some awesome Instagrams in and leave right before the it got dark. I looked up and saw a huge sign that read, "NOWHERE TO HIDE". Intimidating? Heck yeah! I'm thinking it's daylight and hoping for the best.

We started out with a "comforting" lunch at Spurs Restaurant and filled up with Mrs. Knott's famous fried chicken. Always delicious. Thanks, Knott's!

Then we listened to an informative Q&A session with the maze designers. They were giving us tips like:
  • If you're scared, don't look at the monsters. They will sense your fears.
  • They are trained NOT to scare babies or small children.
  • There's no way to finish all the mazes unless you upgrade to VIP Skeleton Key.
  • Mirror Mirror Maze will have a really long line so you might want to get in it first.
The designers really think hard year after year, "How do we make it creepy?" They even visit other haunted houses and mazes throughout the season all around the world for ideas for next year. If you're not scared then they haven't done their job.

WARDROBE
We toured the warehouse of themed costumes. There are some that are new this year as well as re-purposed.  How impressive is their system? There are hundreds of monsters for designated haunts that come through there nightly. As we're there, we're on watch for monsters arriving for make-up.

MAKE UP
Artist Leeann Phillips Chavez @LeeLeeFX made these masks: Eagle aka Skully and Barber are at Ghost Town, and Clown Will and Giggles are at Boardwalk.

WE TOURED MAZES
This part was pretty amazing. Some of us thought it was creepier with the lights on (minus someone jumping out at you). The designers took us through Endgames, Trick or Treat, Dominion of the Damned, and Forevermore maze. Want to know what it was like? Room-to-room we were trying to be brave while trying to figure out which horror movie it came from. It was pretty cool walking around with the designers, and I wish everyone gets a chance to do this at least once in their lifetime.

HISTORIC TOUR OF GHOST TOWN
Here we're learning the history where it all started on Main Street in Ghost Town with Ted Dougherty. He's also the author of "Knott's Halloween Haunt - A Picture History."

Back in the day, they didn't have monsters walking around, they only had peek-ins behind the windows. One of the monsters were locked out so he ran around scaring people. His supervisors loved it so much a new Scary Farm tradition was born.

At night, Ghost Town is covered in fog and the real "SCARE" begins...
(I made a mental note to get out of there before the fog comes in.)

As we were heading back, we walked past a gang of Monsters getting ready for The Haunt. This Green Witch had major attitude!

We're smiling here, but we were really scared.

When the fog came in and as people were trying to get in, my friend Jaime and I were trying to run away!
